Winter shipping between Regina and Minot

Highway 39 in January is a different road than Highway 39 in July. The daily run keeps going all winter, but a few things change and it helps to know them.

The truck still leaves at noon

We do not cancel for cold. The truck is plugged in overnight, the driver checks conditions before leaving Regina, and the run goes as scheduled in almost all weather. The exception is a Saskatchewan or North Dakota highway closure, which we cannot drive through and will not try. On those days we call every shipper on the manifest first thing in the morning.

Delivery windows widen

A run that takes five and a half hours in summer can take seven in blowing snow. In winter we quote Minot delivery as "same day" rather than a clock time, and northbound freight is next business day without exception.

Freight that cannot freeze

Our trucks are dry, enclosed and unheated. Paint, adhesives, liquids in plastic drums and anything else with a freezing point should not travel with us between November and March unless you have confirmed the product can take it. We will ask, but you know your goods better than we do.

Book earlier

Winter storms bunch freight. A closure on Tuesday means Wednesday's truck is full by mid-morning Tuesday. If you know a shipment is coming, book it the day before whenever you can.

Hotshots in winter

Hotshots still run around the clock, with the same honesty about conditions. If a grid road is drifted in we will tell you before we leave rather than after we get stuck.
